Head of Secondary Message I would like to wish you a very warm welcome to the Secondary Section of Oxford Academy. We are an exciting and ambitious school that strives daily to ensure opportunities for all of our students and staff. Oxford Academy is an ambitious and aspirational school and recognizes that student’s value education and the crucial role it plays in ensuring that they are prepared to enter the world of further education and work. The curriculum has been adapted to the International demands of our parents and students, and we are proud of our improved IGCSE results year on, year on. Our students have gone onto enter Universities across the world and achieved their aspirations in becoming professionals and career motivated individuals. We follow a strict uniform and the students demonstrate a thirst for learning and their smart appearance, a strong work ethic and exemplary behavior creates the climate where all our students flourish.  The curriculum is combination of the International Cambridge Curriculum and the British National Curriculum for England and Wales. The curriculum is adapted to the meet the needs of the learners in the Middle East. Student follow the curriculum and sit for their IGCSE’s in KS4 (Year 10 & 11) Students sit valid and authentic baseline assessments twice a year to set targets which are constantly monitored throughout the year through assessments and Assessment for learning in these lessons. KEY STAGE 3 (YEARS 7&8) The KS3 Curriculum consists of Years 7 to 8 where all subjects at this Key Stage are compulsory, and all students will study: • Arabic • Art and Design • Coordinated Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology in Year 9) • English (Language and Literature) • Geography • History • Information and Communication Technology • Islamic Studies • Mathematics • Physical Education • Social Studies (Year 7) KEYSTAGE 4(YEAR 9, 10 AND 11) The KS4 now incorporates Year 9 where the student is exposed the IGCSE curriculum. Students are taught the core curriculum to reinforce the foundation of knowledge, skills and application needed to attain good result at IGCSE examinations. The KS4 curriculum for Years 10& 11 have been adapted to meet the demands of the colleges and universities. We run a three and three approach to the options. In Year 10, students concentrate on the two core subjects English and Mathematics, with one option of their choice. The aim is to secure the core subjects and attain the best possible result, which is reinforced with the concentrated teaching time allocation. In Year 11, the students choose the next three options, which they sit for at the end of Year 11, a total of six IGCSE over a two-year period. We do offer the opportunity to a second option in Year 10 and fourth option in Year 11 giving a total of 8 IGCSE’s for those who need it. Parental consent is needed to follow this option.
